MAMIE S. BARRETT
At the small community Deer Park, LA, the steam towboat MAMIE S. BARRETT (T#1706) can be found close to a cut off of the Mississippi River. Heavily damaged by a fire in May 2017 and later by flooding. It’s not clear, how much is left of the Mamie S. Barrett as of today, but she’s still visible on the satellite images of Google Maps (which are from November 2018).
Directions:
From Natchez, MS, take Hwy 65 north/84 west and cross the bridge to Vidalia, LA, take LA 3180 south at Vidalia shortly after the bridge, continue on LA 131 south and LA 15 south. Deer Park is located about 18 mi south of Vidalia. As soon as you see the green sign “Deer Park” turn left and cross the levee and follow the gravel road (South Prong Road) which runs along the boat.
