Fabulous video footage of the 75th Anniversary Cruise and first cruise of the Delta Queen for Delaware North Co. August 26-29, 2002. With lots of Delta Queen and steamboating history, wonderful historic film material for example from the Gordon C. Greene, Avalon, President, Admiral, the Greene family and of course the Delta Queen. Watch the speeches held for anniversary, hear a great, long interview with Delta Queen Master Capt. Mike Williams, experience a pilot house tour by “Toot” Maloy, let First Assistant Engineer Jeff Smith introduce the engine room, listen to the history talk by Clarke C. “Doc” Hawley and to some steamboatin’ stories by Letha Jane Greene. I’d recommend the longer version of the video as the history talks are longer – and they are really good.

A history of steamboats on the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers. It’s 87 minutes with great vintage film of riverboats from the 1920s to today. Most of these boats are long gone today. It has towboats, packets, excursion boats and ore, all of them steam powered.
The main program runs 52 minutes but there is extra footage of stern-wheeler towboats, Herbert Hoover’s trip in 1929, the boat “Gordon C. Greene” and even a small stern-wheeler built in 1999. There’s also a preview of “Delta Queen 75th Anniversary” so the tape runs a total of 87 minutes.

On his way back to St. Louis Jim Herron is following the American Queen by car visiting the new Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque, the Geo. M. Verity Museum in Keokuk and the Buffalo Bill Museum featuring the steam towboat Lone Star in LeClaire. Added is some great historic video footage of the Lone Star.
