The Coast Guard Appropriation bill passed the Senate handily, including a provision to allow the Delta Queen to operate. Now it has to pass the house. I'm surprised no one has posted this already! GTell your House Representative to vote for S140!! TIME IS SHORT and there's a lot of money floating around to defeat the DQ part of the bill.
I guess the chances are better than ever for this bill to pass. To my understanding, the House is only be able to skip the DQ part with an amendment, which then would have to be negotiated with the Senate again while the main part of the bill, the Coast Guard budget, has to pass quickly. And that which won't happen if they have to start negotiating with the Senate again ... We'll see and keep our fingeres crossed.
*Coast Guard bill S140/DQ*
Thanks, David & Franz for your above. Things appear to be moving on, but make no mistake as this issue isn't over or a shoo in by a long shot. I've pulled text of the Bill S140 from both April and October, 2018. The April bill text much more informative. There no are no lengthy statements for the DELTA QUEEN appearing in either. One part of the provision states, "Coast Guard regulations and standards interpreted consistently." All privision 835 states is "Sets standards related to fire-retardant materials." I've also seen other sites with analysis and political statements, criticism from others. No doubt there is further detailed information I will continue to sleuth out. I've requested the actual text in Black/White stating clearly that ACL has/is lobbying for direct defeat of the DQ initiative but, so far, no text has appeared. Who would have thought recent action on this would have taken place? UP and ON!
