Greetings, all...!
I encountered a picture of the steamer "Oregon" while reading a history of the Stone-Campbell churches. She was built by Rees, knocked down and re-assembled overseas, and operated on the Congo in Africa. A little noodling led me back to my Rees catalog, which includes another photo and a testimonial from the missionary that used the boat. All of these photos of her are bow-on shots, such that I can't tell if she was a screw-boat or a sternwheeler. Even the specs listing in the catalog doesn't say. Does anyone know?
As always, many thanks!
Indeed it does, Jon - many thanks! Close examination of the picture in that link also reveals hog chains that all but seal the matter.
Right, Luke.....and if I really squint it looks like a slide valve engine sitting on proper cylinder timbers. Clearly a sternwheeler!
Should anyone encounter other (better!) pictures of the "Oregon", please let me know.
Many thanks!
