    Sad steamboatin' news

It is with heavy heart I report the passing of BELLE OF LOUISVILLE Fireman, Wayne Mc Dole. He served as Fireman from 1984 through 2009. He was a professional who always had a gleam in his eye and a smile on his face. He kept the fire room immaculate and was one of the most dependable Firemen I have ever known on the BELLE. Many times I would come down stairs to see him showing off his fire room to passengers and talking with the pride one does of their own children.

Of all the steamboat crew members, the Fireman gets the least recognition, yet every other crew member relies on him the most. Wayne, my friend, you never left us with out steam...too bad most of us never told you that in person. Rest in peace, Sir.

I am sad to hear of the passing of Wayne McDole.Wayne was always friendly to me as a passenger. I always made a point to stop to visit a few moments with Wayne when he was firing the boilers.I hope that some one will post his funeral arrangements.Vic
