    DELTA QUEEN Farewell Party

The new owners posted this on the Delta Queen Steamboat Company's facebook page. Wanted to post it here for those who don't use Facebook:

Come meet the Delta Queen's new owner's and help us give the Queen the royal sendoff she deserves aboard the Southern Belle excursion boat Sunday March 22, 2015. Boarding will be at 2:30 PM, for a 3:00 PM departure from the Southern Belle's dock in downtown Chattanooga. We will then escort the Queen out of the city down to Williams Island. Live entertainment and light refreshments will be included.

    Cost: $25 Per Person

Call 423-499-9977 or 800-499-9877 for tickets before they sell out!

**Out of Town guests can call the Chattanooga Choo Choo at 1-800-TRACK-29 for discounted "Delta Queen Rates."

Thank you for this posting. We will be there in spirit!
So many groups seem to be going to Facebook for their announcements and communications, but some folks won't use Facebook, and others, like myself, cannot get to Facebook because of a slow internet connection. Facebook and dial up are not compatible. I haven't been able to update my own Facebook page for some time now. This messageboard works almost just fine for me, and I miss the old "Save The Delta Queen" messageboard, where I could keep up with what's going on.
Ah well, someday the internet folks will see fit to provide service back here in "the boonies." Probably about the time it gets too crowded for me! :)
BTW, this is the 8th anniversary of my first complete day on board the DQ--and it's my Birthday too!

Thanks for that info as I did not realize she even existed (sorry - new to this message board and I usually just do random searches to locate other paddle boats). I just gave her a like on Facebook. Thanks again for posting this info.

She will be towed per the article. It's going to be a great send off, from the article. It is accessible in the previous post. FULL STEAM AHEAD!!!

            David:

Happy birthday and I agree with you about Facebook and the decline of boards like this. I am registered under an alias and post very infrequently. I registered because several .orgers started posting their pix on Facebook instead and I wanted to see them. But I don't really care what you had for breakfast, or where you were 15 minutes ago, or who 'likes' every darn posting, etc. It is easier to post pix on there than here, but that doesn't make up for the other things. And I hear that even Facebook is old fashioned to younger people now. An addendum to the DQ article: Capt. Mike Williams will be aboard as the DQ is towed to NOLA. He of course has been administering tender care to Her Ladyship during these down years and it is only appropriate that he share in this journey to return her to glory.

Anyone know exactly where they are taking Her Ladyship? New Orleans is a pretty generic destination.

Oh, I wish I could be there, but I'm in Denver this weekend. I have prayed and worked for this day! I've literally been in depression and counseling since 2008.

                  DQ Send Off Cruise

I reserved my ticket yesterday. Looking forward to meeting a lot of steamboat friends on board. Will anyone be hanging around Coolidge Park earlier in the day besides me to see what I can see as they prep the DQ for departure?

                      Delta Queen Farewell Party

I should have put this with the earlier post but did not. Everyone is asking me about television coverage.Apparently the local Chatanooga stations are covering the party but we were all wondering here in South Florida if it will get national news coverage? IF not it should and may I just say to all those who have worked so hard to accomplish this FULL STEAM AHEAD. Carole MAtthews Pompano Beach Florida 33064

Last I knew (at least a year old info) one boiler was still useable, so was hoping the she'd leave with a calliope tune and of course, that wonderful whistle. Posted on another site was the info that the whistle is safely packed away, and just a phoney is on the stack right now. I was able (with much difficulty with dial-up) to see a pic of them sawing the paddleboards off, (apparently to cut down on drag and to keep the engines from moving) and noted there are no whistles on the calliope! I am hoping they are also packed safely away. Of course, this means NO concert! The send off won't be as grand as the arrival, I guess. But she IS going for refitting, so that's great news!l
There was also something about new air compressors in the boiler room--I'm guessing if they can't raise steam, they needed to run the stage motor with air?
I know, too many questions on details!! :)

                          Delta Queen Farewell

On David Deweys recent post I read where the paddlewheel boards of the DQ are being sawed into pieces.I had read a few days ago the board pieces that have been sawed are then going to be sold as souveniers as she will get an all new paddlewheel after she is redone. Does anyone know where these pieces are being offered for sale? Will it be on ebay? I would love to know as I would really like to have one. Bet she will really look fantastic when she is all refurbished and she deserves a grand facelift and everything after all those years of service. I am so excited for her can hardly wait for them to start.Carole MAtthews Pompano Beach Florida 33064 Just had a passing thought that maybe someone who lives near the boatyard where she is going could take photos of the renovation if it is allowed? I am still trying to find out if the farewell will be on ABC NBC or CBS tomorrow. We here in South Fla.get tired of waiting for the pony express JUST KIDDING
