    Spirit of Cincinnati

Some time ago there was a question on here and facebook as to the M/V Spirit of Cincinnati. Well the Spirit is off on a very long delivery trip to its new owners. All the way to Pierre, South Dakota. Now Pierre is about 340 miles above the head of navigation on the Missouri River. As all rivermen know, Souix City at mile 734 is considered the head. Not only does the Spirit have to go 340 more miles it has to pass over three(3) huge fixed dams. Gavin point at mile 811, Ft. Randall at mile 880 and finally Big Bend Dam ay mile 987.5. A rather extrodinary journey to say the least.

Thanks for the update Bill! I had heard it was bound for the Missouri River, but my source had sworn me to secrecy!

      You Must Be Kidding...

Wow! Pierre, SD?? I'm married to a South Dakota girl, an I know a bit about Pierre. It's hardly a place that could make a successful excursion boat location. It's the state capitol of South Dakota, but it has a population of only 14,000, and it's located 30 miles north of the main tourist thoroughfare, Interstate 90. It has a tourist trade at the capitol building and grounds, and there is a convention business there that might be looking for a new activity, but there is a short season for any boat rides. The high plains are notoriously windy, and there is often white caps on the Missouri River, even on lazy summer days. If I didn't know any better, I'd think this is a silly April Fool's joke! Just my views as an outsider looking in...
