    October "Happenings at the Howard"

Our 21st annual Wine Tasting, Cocktail Buffet and Silent Auction to benefit the Howard Steamboat Museum will occur this Friday (October 4) at the ACL Building overlooking the Ohio at 1701 East Market Street. If you wish to attend and haven't made a reservation, it's OK to pay at the door. Tickets are $40 per person and the event begins at 6:30 PM.

As part of the "Photo Biennial", in which many regional museums are participating, the Howard Museum is sponsoring an exhibit entitled The Howard Collection: A Family, A Shipyard and An Era, through the month of October. The display comprises some 40 black and white enlargements of images taken by Capt. Jim, and his brother, Capt. Clyde Howard.

This unique and intriguing exhibit is being curated by Jim Reising, well known on this forum, former purser on the DQ and BELLE --- and LONGTIME volunteer at the HSM from its beginning in 1958. I call Jimmy our "photo wizard" for the wonderful work he does with our photographic collections. This is an outstanding display and we cordially invite you to visit and view it. Admission is free (to the exhibition only, which is set up in our restored laundry house) during regular museum hours. Donations are gratefully accepted! The opening reception will be on Sunday, October 13th from 1-4 PM.

The Howard is truly a "happening" place!
