    2011 Sternwheel Towboat Calendar available

Looking for a great gift idea, or a unique and practical collectible?
Our 2011 Wall Calendar is Here!

For 2011 we continue with the popular sternwheel towboat theme. We always use the best quality photos in our calendars, but we believe the selections for 2011 are the best yet!

    Featured Towboats:
Of the 14 boats featured in the calendar, four were originally steamboats, with the oldest being built in 1911. Only three towboats from the calendar exist today, and only one of those is still operational. In the calendar you will read about the sternwheel towboat that collided with the Str. CINCINNATI (later known as the PRESIDENT), resulting in a fatality aboard the CINCINNATI.

The 2011 "Diesel Sternwheel Towboat" calendar features 13 large boat photos printed on heavy card stock (suitable for framing). Each month features a specific boat along with its history, and a complete calendar page with holidays marked. Featured towboats include:

    FAYETTEVILLE
    CHICKASAW
    TENNESSEE
    JOHN J. HOOPES
    SKIPPER
    IRVIN S. COBB
    STEEL CITY
    WALTER P. DOLLE
    DOROTHY
    CRITERION
    F.L. BOWERS
    PITTSBURGH
    L.G. BEAVER

This is the 10th annual fundraising calendar offered by the non-profit Historic Sternwheeler Preservation Society.

All proceeds go toward the maintenance of the 1923 sternwheel towboat BARBARA H, a National Historic Landmark Vessel.

    Calendar Price: $15.95
Shipping: $4.50 for one; (add $1 for each additional calendar).

Please mail check or money order to:
    HSPS, Inc.
    158 Ashland Cove Road
    Vevay, IN 47043

Online Credit card ordering is available from our web site's Gift Shop at: Historic Sternwheeler Preservation Society, Inc.

    Captain Steve,

With a cover like that, who'll ever want to flip her to peer inside. Nice work on the colorizing, that's really sharp. Can you have a couple (one for the office and one for the house) ready for me next weekend to pick up when the C and L packet stops in Lamb on her downbound trip?

Yes, the 2011 calendar cover is probably my favorite now, but hand-tinting that photo in PhotoShop was a lot of work! The edges of the green leaves were especially difficult and time-intensive!

According to Dan Owen (who helped support our fundraiser by donating the use of these fine photos from his Boat Photo Museum), this cover scene is in Beaver Creek, near Smiths Ferry, PA, just outside of East Liverpool, OH. Coal from local mines was trucked to this tipple and barges were loaded. Boats like the L.G. BEAVER would then back the loads out into the Ohio River and make-up the tows that would take them to customers downstream.

One of the featured boats in the calendar is owned by Gary Frommelt. Does anyone happen to have a current email address for Gary? If so, please email me directly at captain@hspsi.org, or send me a private message thru this message board. Thanks.

My usual order of two calendars has been processed. I never look at the pictures until a new month has changed. As time flies, that seems quick enough... and it savors the anticipation throughout an entire year.

Just wanted to note that we still have a good supply of 2011 Sternwheel Towboat Calendars in stock, for those who are looking for a gift item, or just want a unique calendar to hang on the wall.

Proceeds from these calendar sales significantly help our non-profit maintain this +87 year-old vessel.

(see 1st message in this thread for ordering info).

To all who have already ordered -- Thank you!

                I Just Received Mine !

                Greetings From New Orleans !
I just received mine and I have to say that I am very impressed with both the pictures and the follow up information on the respective boats that are presented in this calandar !
A first class job was done with each and every one of the boats and my hat is off to those who collaborated with this endeavor !
                Smooth Sailing !
