"Buyers are sought for American Queen, Empress of the North"

Please read the entire article at the link.

"The American Queen and Empress of the North have been put up for sale by the U.S. Maritime Administration, or Marad, bringing all the old questions to bear about the future and viability of U.S. river cruising and more specifically of the two ships in question.

Marad hired investment banking firm AMA Capital Partners to assist with the sale of the former Majestic America Line ships."

Buyers are sought for American Queen, Empress of the North...Travel News : Professional Travel Guide

Resisting to urge to comment on the two gentlemen quoted in the article, the part about the Empress' 12 foot draft reminded me that she was designed specifically to handle the run from Seattle to Juneau through the Southeast Alaskan waterway.

She is a beautiful boat and her penchant for hitting things cannot be layed at the feet of her draft.

A strong AMEN to that, bro. Paul. The Empress 2004 season was accident free... largely because of the presence of Capt Joy Wiek ( of recent AQ note) and Capt. Rob Nordstrom. Thevessel would serve the Columbia River well, and I hate to see potential investors given any other impressions.

*RE: 'Buyers for AQ/EMPRESS OF THE NORTH.*
        Hi, Mark:
Thanks for your mention of the recent press/travel releases RE: AQ/EMPRESS OF THE NORTH. I received an early on business report on the same last week but hesitated to mention/post here. The financial $$ quotes not good. I did notice quotes from previous executives from DQ/AMBASSADORS etc. The proposal to "sell" the protected logo name DELTA QUEEN STEAMBOAT CO. for recognition, sales, promotion most interesting if/when another company shows interest. I noted not one word about the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN or present operation of the DELTA QUEEN in Tennessee.

Another report mentioned the plight of some European river cruise vessels along with the "dead flat" Alaska cruise market for 'blue water ships.'

Still cool to cold with sun up here on northern Lake Michigan. Heard the recent issue of the REFLECTOR has been mailed but won't see it up here possibly until last of July or August.

        Well, what do I know?

        From the shores up north.
