    Mary, I think it is a SIN to not have the boats docking at Evansville, anymore! Dress Plaza should be Re-opened to allow the steamboats to dock there! The DQSC has NOT visited Evansville since the late 80&#039;s. How can we ask mayor Whienzapfel for a recendition of docking rights? Sincerely, Allen Dale.

    Mary, I see the City of Evansville Riverboat leaving and SOON! I have been predicting that by 2010, they will sell AZTAR as a whole and have some other ugly duckling meander up to the dock. I would LOVE to see that site religated for the AQ, and DQ to dock at! When we look back at riverboat casinos starting IN New Orleans, we are able to more accurately predict WHERE boats go after 10 years or so.

    Hello Mary
I was the Captain on board while we stopped @ the LST 325. We were on a 5 day 4 night trip down the Ohio River ending up on Kentucky Lake for the entire day on Sunday. All the passengers I talked to loved the LST and thought the Evansville riverboat was spetacular. It is a nice riverfront but unfortunately no visiting boats can land there. That is the reason we overnighted in Henderson. However, the passengers and myself did stay at the Executive Inn in Downtown Evansville and I will add we had a great stay there. The hotel treated us great. Thanks Evansville, the Belle of Cincinnati will be back there.

    the michigan boat has been in operation since 1983 on Lake Biwa  Otsu, Japan.   I worked on it as for 9 months in 1984 thru the Japan Adventure Program with Lansing Community College (Michigan)  there was no theme park there back then, but might be now.  i visited again in 1987 and it is still operating today.

    If we can keep cruise liners afloat which have fires aboard and people getting sick all the time, why do we have a problem with he Delta Queen, which has not had these problems.  Seems like some policics involved here.  And these cruise liners are always in the open sea.  This is another argument to to send to our politicians.  The riverboat line says Congress already passed this.  I believe if enough HELL is raised they can rethink this, like they have in other rulings.

    I remember one time when I was on the
Arkansas River the Delta Queen and The Border Star were racing.I don&#039;t remember
who won the race,but I do remember how
big Delta Queen was next to Border Star.
I think that we need to preserve history for future generations.

    The DQ is at the Public Landing in Cincinnati.  The Landing looked much different before the sports venues got built there.  Also, the river level is higher nowadays. The large hill in the picture is Mt. Adams.

    The Delta Queen is the last of her kind and should be allowed to continue sailing.  The DQ needs to be available to future generations.  In this time where technology advances everyday to a faster pace than the day before, we need to remember that it possible to live at slower pace where we don’t need computers, cell phones, and tight schedules.  I understand the safety concerns of SOLAS, and one thing that modern technology has given us is the ability to address those concerns and safely operate an older vessel like the DQ.  When operating an older vessel like the DQ, it is done out of love and the desire to preserve history.  Those of you reading this that know me know that I can speak with great authority on what it is like to own and operate an older vessel solely for the purpose of saving her from the scrap pile.  I was able to save the Magnolia Belle (Bonnie Belle) for future generations to know her history and for the reasons stated above the Delta Queen must also be saved for future generations.

    In reading today&#039;s press release from MAL, I sensed that the company is baiting a hook to get public attention whipped up.  What little I know of the DQ&#039;s history of impending doom in the early 1970&#039;s, I recall hearing that there was a cruise billed as the final cruise.  Now, the entire season of 2008 is billed as the final SEASON.  A genius of marketing!  N&#039;est-ce pas?

    Captain Tom Schiffer&#039;s photo of Monday, July 2, 2007, is not of an authentic flatboat.  The boat is probably motorized; I say that because of the rudder on the stern.  An authentic flatboat would not have a rudder, but it would have sweeps.  Authentic flatboats travel as the current and the wind moves them.  Authentic flatboats are maneuvered by sweeping the water.  A rudder on an authentic flatboat is as useful as a rudder on a hot-air balloon=useless. In addition, consider what would happen if Captain Schiffer&#039;s steamboat would break down (a concept difficult to digest because he is such a good mechanic):  He could maneuver his craft with his canoe paddle but his turning the rudder would bear no effect.  Perhaps your word &quot;authentic&quot; referred to the historical clothing worn by the crew under their anachronistic personal flotation devices.  SAFETY FIRST!

    My Vote is for the Delta Queen, as I have a copy of a photo taken of the bow, on what appears to be the same day--same size crowd and water waves &amp;amp; sky. 
Even during her early years on the Old Muddy, she had lifeboats on each side. They only left when the inflatables and slides were put on.  The deckhouse on the Queen was removed in &#039;48 when the decks were extended.
Liam, the smaller stack you see nowadays is a modern incarnation, The greens first gave the queen an elongated modern stack, and then there have been quiet a few exepriments with stack sizes and shapes.

    My vote is the King as well, I have been on both several times.  My reason&#039;s however are simple due to how short the name appears, the two looked near identical when they were painted with the lettering on sides.  Just to refresh some history, the Delta Queen was never a car ferry, she did carry cars in her lower hold, the room that today serves as her main dining salon, but she was often loaded with other cargo as well.  During the 1920&#039;s to 1940&#039;s, she and the King both had lifeboats with welin davits on both sides and the bow deck house, a total of 8 in all.

    I think this boat is the delta king.      The reason I think this is because the delta queen has a bigger pilot house and because its smoke stack is smaller.      The bow also apears diffrent.      As a hotel today in sacremento,the delta king still has that same bow.     But one thing I noticed is that  there are lifeboats on the bow and on the side and the delta queen as a car ferry in 1927 never and still has no lifeboats visable to the passengers.
