Friday, November 2. 2007Belle of Cincinnati in Evansville, IndianaHowdy, one of the greatest sights that I saw was seeing the Belle of Cincinnati in our Ohio River area. Last night the folks who were on this year's "River Hop" stayed overnight at Owensboro, Kentucky. Tonight those same folks will be spending a peaceful night in Henderson, Kentucky. This afternoon, the Belle of Cincinnati came in our Evansville, Indiana Ohio River area and docked briefly beside the LST 325. Then, the boat gracefully, mightily, and clearly was at comfort in a new setting. Our folks along the river bank were in awe. I had several folks approach me about the boat and almost didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked. They just kept talking to me about river boats. Hey, they have the interest....told me all kinds of 'facts' they knew about boats, of course. I stood by the Pagoda, our Evansville Visitors and Convention bureau and waved and waved. At that time, a little ole' lady told me all about the Gulf Port after Katrina. It was an awesome sight to see this boat. She did toot the Casino Aztar boat when passing. It was just a neat site. You may be able to see her on our Channel 7 Fox News. They covered a story. I don't know if the newspaper folks got there until tomorrow. The radio is always great troopers and supporters for river boats. They are great in making sure folks know about the boats who come in the area. If the newspaper covers anything tomorrow, it is www.courierpressonline.com Again, I don't know if anyone got there, I did remind the newspaper editor and a reporter that covers river boats. The passengers aboard the boat got to see our neat riverfront. And, the sun was starting to set, so they may have gotten to see the lights at night. If we set our clocks back last week, they would have gotten a neat look of the lit up riverbank....but, by new Indiana law we turn the clocks back this weekend. Oh, well, at least they got to see our river front, the Port of Evansville at work, even though it is for sale.....I believe waiting for a neat new dock. Thanks, to the Belle of Cincinnati for taking the time to stop by Evansville, Indiana, for the brief moment that you did. It is appreciated and what a grand sight it was. Great stuff!!!
