Wednesday, May 9. 2007MISSISSIPPI QUEEN to be back in March 2008
In a confernce call to financial analysts earlier this month, David Giersdorf, president of Majestic America Line, confirmed what had been discussed on the steamboats.org message board before: The Mississippi Queen will not operate at all this year, but will come back to the rivers in March 2008. As already announced earlier, the boat will have a major renovation, including reducing the number os staterooms and adding a spa.
Sunday, May 6. 2007A very special table
I'm sure there are a lot of memories connected with this table as well as with the LUNGA POINT, which may still be existing. Way's Directory mentions the steam fron her boilers being used for cleaning barges at Port Allen, LA, still in 1980 by the Port Allen Marine Service. Tuesday, May 1. 2007Belle of Cincinnati in our Ohio RegionHowdy, golly geez...when you snooze you loose. I am so glad that someone posted information about the Belle of Cincinnati coming in our Ohio River Region this fall of 2007. WOW!! what excitement. I told our river region to hang in there as boats will slowly come in the region, but I didn't expect it all to come into place with the bad politics we've had here when the LST 325 came to town. WHEW!! I'm so glad that the Ohio River region will enjoy this beautiful boat. It is exciting to say the least and I thank the guy who posted the information on this website. Someone on the boat last year felt that they'd be coming this year....but, I just thought it was beyond all hope for the moment. I believed that the Belle of Cincinnati would come eventually, but WOW!!! the Region will just flip!! How exciting. (of course, I alerted the media tonight....hee, hee, ha) Our chamber of commerce is going to Cincinnati, ohio, in May to learn about what their town does to create jobs, how they run things in the government, and such, as they've already done that in Louisivlle, and in Nashville. So, this is exciting and hope they have a great turn out so that they will want to come again, hopefully race a neat boat in time here, and stay a tad longer. I am so excited that they are coming in this Ohio River Region. I told you that our local CVB got the state of Indiana signs that read "Ohio River Scenic Byway" with a steamboat in the back ground. SO, we'll rip the river up in time......and I thank the Belle of Cincinnati to come here in early November. It is still pretty here that time of year. What excitement. I'm flabbergasted that I missed the posting earlier. I've been battling a real estate deal, had to fire the mortgage company, fight off sexual harassment---and, I'm no pretty gal....okay, striking, but not pretty. And, overweight. Geez. So, I'm just beside myself I missed all of this, but so very, very glad they are coming. I told the region the boats would start coming and GOLLY, they are!!!! Thank you, thank you. Mary K. Hukill Delta Queen passed by Evansville, INHowdy, it was on our late night news cam that the Delta Queen passed Evansville, In, about 7:00am tonight going to Louisville, Ky, to be in the 'Great Steamboat' race before the Kentucky Derby. She tooted three times, to my knowledge per the news story. When the river boats pass us they let us hear the boats toot and do pan shot of it going down the river. It is always so breath taking. SO, TOOT, TOOT, TOOT to the Delta Queen and the other Queen series boats!! from Evansville, IN. Oh, I've been busy. I missed out why the Mississippi Queen is stuck in renovations and not stopping by here on May 11, 2007. UGH. We'll miss you. UGH. I'll have to look at the postings tomorrow and call the ticket office or someone on the street and ask what happened. UGH. Three days ago the Cajun Queen was to have sold. I was top bidder for a while but was needing a real estate deal to close to help get/generate/fork over money to get the darn boat deal to work. So, kids, I'm off to shop, again, for a boat this weekend. I've got to work out a deal to get a boat here in our Ohio River Region. So, I've got to revisit who I asked beforehand and see if they will still join the table or get one of the others. Geez. What is a gal to do. SO, I'll keep you posted. I'm hoping to help get a deal started of some sort this weekend and hopefully in May 2007 find something larger than a rubber ducky to bring here for tours in the Ohio River Region where I am, western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. I keep in there. (had to get rid of the past mortgage company...they stunk) It all works out.....somehow...whatever way it is to work out. UGH. But, things work out. So, great to see the Delta Queen pass. We've got cool signs all along our big streets along the river from the State of Indiana "Ohio River Scenic Byway" that the Evansville CVB Executive Director, Marilee Fowler got. They are cool signs. Give me, my company, and them time and you'll see a really vibrant Ohio River in time. The Dragon Races are in about two weeks, that is some folks speed, along with the Rubber Ducky races we have. But, we have Hydroplane races with a great national name on the circuit. Now, just have to work harder on the Steamboats/river boats/Paddllewheelers and Yachts. I asked someone from downtown to work on the American Sternwheel Association to come to town for a Festival. I'll keep hacking at them. One Hydroplane guy wanted them here on July 4th of a year, but I suggest another date in a year. We'll see. Gotta' go. I have to take some time to read all of this stuff about the Mississippi Queen being renovated. GEEZ......what is a girl to do...missed so much......UGH. Hope everyone is doing great!!! May the best Horse win this Saturday at the Derby....hope it is mine. Mary
