old photo of COAL HAVEN/MARMET FLEET. The photo was snapped from the pilothouse of one of the MARMET steam towboats. The back just says, "Big flood, MARMET CO. from the pilothouse.", no date. The river is up with terrific flats of drift hemming in the wood coal barges. This adjacent to Kellogg Avenue near Lunken Airport. The area then was known as 'Flea Town.' Hills in the distance are present day Mt. Washington. Interesting seeing the huge problem drift caused. Huge drifts like this had a peculiar strong, wet, pungent smell when the water later dropped beaching all out. Full of rats in time.
