The STR. AMERICA taken at the Louisville wharf in 1927 with a black baptism taking place beside the boat. All the passengers and crew are watching the ceremony. Notice the side wheeler above the AMERCIA preparing to leave the landing. It might be the ROSE ISLAND.
Thanks very much to Jim Reising for sending this wonderful picture!
My reaction comes from my enthsuaism for maritime art. I've written about it whether cited on east or west coast, Gulf or Great Lakes.
The Ohio is still an open page. Can you tell me who took the photo? My guess is Herbert Flora (1870-1955) at Madison. And possibly Richard Hunste (1862-1928), Thornton Barrette (1852-1930), Herbert Fischer (1870-1955)
Unfortunately I do not have any information about who is the photographer of this picture. The only information I have about it is that it was made by a Louisville local photo company Caulfield and Shuck. Jim Reising sent it to me from his private collection.
