This is the GORDON C. GREENE in the spring of 1936 when they were adding the second Texas Deck to her. Capts. Tom and Mary Greene bought the GORDON C. GREENE and her first season under them was 1935. (Greene Line Co. did not buy it). After this season, Capt. Tom had some improvements in mind, most obviously the addition of the larger Texas Deck. This was to increase the passenger capacity. So in April 1936 they removed the small Texas which housed the officers, raised it 7 feet and constructed the bigger Texas underneath it. They only raised the pilothouse 28 inches, so she was not towering over the boat as previously. This work was all done in-house, and much of it by Capt. Jesse Hughes, who took this picture. For a complete story of this project, see the REFLECTOR Sept. 2000.
Thanks very much to Judy for sending the picture and the historic information along with it!
