Ok, Judy, you have a lot of questions! And I know you have probably walked the boats, (Not any more baby, I am here now!) jUST KIDDING, look me up anytime, Judy, you will get the true insiders tour! Yes, we are going to the Avondale main yard, but, it really doesn't cost anymore than any other small yard, it's all based on availability! No, the boiler work isn't being done by Avondale, they would be lost on our circa 1919 boilers! It is all gonna be done by Steve Messina and crew out of New York, who have done all of the boiler work on the DQ for the last6 years! Trust me, they are the best, otherwise I would fire them! But, we have many other tasks ahead of us. I have spent the last three days opening fuel tanks on the Delta Queen in preparation of the "gas free process", where all fuel tanks must be throughly cleaned and certified by a marine chemist to be free of flammable gasses before being drydocked. That is to insure that there are no explosive gasses or fuel left in the tanks when the boat is drydocked, so that hull welding and repair can safely take place! I have been working, by myself, for the last three days opening fuel tanks on the Delta Queen, pulling up deck plates under the crew quarters, propping up 400 pond steel beds, to gain acess to all of the manhole covers to the fuel tanks! Also, because I have seen this before, I am covering the crew hold bulkheads with cardboard and plastic to keep the grease and oil off from the tank cleaners. I have learned to cover the walls. otherwise you end up with an honest week of grease and oil clean up just to get the bulkheads ready to paint again! Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! Your Captain has it ready now, folks. for this my 21st consectutive lay-up of the Delta Queen, I will promise you this, The Delta Queen is 100 percent, guarrenteed, coming back to your hearts! Oh, and P.S. Judy, The old engines in the upper end of the Robin street wharf wharehouse, they ARE the Delta Kings! I don't care what anybody tells you, they are! Come see me, I will show you!
