Sharon: The Ruth Ferris Collection of River Life and Lore comprises a large part of the H.T. Pott Waterways Library of the St. Louis Mercantile Library -- which is part of the University of Missouri - St. Louis. The curator, Bette Gorden, is wonderful and usually attends the annual S&D meeting at Marietta. Over the years of our friendship, Ruth also passed along many artifacts and other items to me for my personal collection. Several years ago, the library did compile a wonderful book entitled "St. Louis and the Mighty Mississippi - The Collected Writings of Ruth Ferris". It is available from the library, which has a web site. Having Ruth as a mentor and being a former teacher myself, I appreciate so much the opportunity to anwer questions on this board and to share the knowledge I have gleaned from 30+ years of being in love with the river and steamboats.
