Sorry for being late in my reporting. The passengers on the August 21 to August 26 Delta Queen trip had a wonderful time. The weather cooperated great except for a heavy downpour in Mayville Friday morning. As reported previously we participated in a celebration at Middlesport,Ohio. Arrived in Pittsburgh to overcast skies and a brief shower. Seems the passengers this time were friendlier than ever. The Queen Mum of the Paddlewheel Queens Red Hat Society had a very good recruiting trip. A group photo is to appear in the Paddlewheeler Newletter at a later date.
I can't say enough good things about the crew. As much as I love the boat, the crew is what makes it so special. "Toots" gave the most wonderful talks ever. That boat is her heart! The dining room staff always goes overboard to make sure everyone has what they want and exactly how they want it. I am so spoiled by housekeeping that when I get home I expect my bed should be made with a mint on my pillow and fresh towels twice a day! This was my first cruise with Captain Mike Williams. He treats that boat as if she was his bride. Captain Jay was so personable. As I love to sit out on deck day and night, I don't get to enjoy the entertainment as much as others, but what I did see was their usual high caliber work. Patrick, the hotel manager, Kathy the pursor, Rebecca the gift shop pursor, Amy the shore tour manager, and on up and down the line, the staff on the Delta Queen is the BEST in the business.
We were privileged to have some Delaware North people on board for a short afternoon cruise out of Wheeling. I hope they got a hint of how great steamboating really is. Thank you Delaware North for Saving our Queens! I still get goosebumps when I hear that whistle!
The Delta Queen was in Louisville yesterday for a turn over day coming in from Pittsburgh and heading out to Memphis.
