Subject: Re: Bringing the W.P. Snyder back to life -

I see that everyone, including myself, is in agreement that Nelson is the one person who could bring the Snyder back to life. Now, lets assume that comes to pass. The State of Ohio donates the boat to Madison Coal and Supply. A million bucks magically appears and the boat is put into A-1 operating condition. Then what happens? Does she set around and get steamed up once or twice a year? I say put her back to work at the job she was designed for - towing barges. What better floating museum than a working steam towboat? She could alternate between light towing jobs nd being open for public inspection at various locations. I confess to not being knowlegable about insurance regs and operating costs, but to me, the Snyder were restored to operating condition, then she should be run regularly. There's nothing sadder than a cold, inanimate steamboat. Other thoughts - She could even become an "excursion boat" by building a passenger carrying barge for her to push. - I'd put a set of modern oil-buring boilers on her - the Belle of Louisville is so equipped. I doubt there is anyone who would want to fire a coal burner these days, even with mechanical stokers.

Well, so much for daydreams.
