Mike, your updates are wonderful. The first thing that I do after I boot up my computer is head over here and read yours and all of the other recent postings. They're all so interesting.

Wow, that story about that New Orleans "jimmycain" was somethin'. We sure don't need anymore events like that; our old gals have been through enough the past six or seven months! Your mention about a certain Chief Engineer makes me laugh. I don't know any old time steamboat engineer that isn't a bit crusty. Each one is sure that the best that they can do is keep that heaving mass of cold steel and hot steam together during their watch; each Chief knowing full well that the laws of physics conspire against them! It's part and parcel of the breed.

I sure look forward to walking aboard the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN at Pittsburgh during July as a paying passenger and then the DELTA QUEEN, but not until December in Galveston!
