Spirit was understood, Sam, and hello Becky! (Kind of like Tom and Becky of Hannibal,Mo.!) Another hard day of work here at the wharf, the river continues to rise, forecast to go to 15.5 OR HIGHER, the highest it's been in a few years!, See steamboaters, if we were running now, we would'nt be making our schedules, stops would all be different, (St. Francisville landing is underwater!) We certainly would'nt be making more than 4 mph going upriver! I've been been building "fender" boards" that I've been sticking down between all three boats gunwhales and the wharf, trying to keep the gunnel edges from hanging up on the top edge of the wharf! So far it is working good, don't worry, I will protect our precious boats! I must tell you of the ferocious storms we had the other day! Awesome winds up to 92 mph, (according to the wind gauge in the Delta Queens pilothouse) About an hour before the storm we had heard the forecast, so we had all gone around doubling and tripling all mooring lines, and, boy am I glad we did. We had one of those Mississippi River storms that Mark Twain said he would compare to any hurricane anywhere, for a moment there, crouched as I was in the pilothouse of the Delta Queen during the height of the brief tempest, I began to plan that the Delta Queens anchor was going to be our only only savior, Because I was almost convinced that no line would hold for long in such fury!. A 700 foot long ship moored across the river from us broke loose and was being blown rapidly our way, but to our good fortune, a southbound tug boat, rapidly caught the ship in the mid section and pushed her back into the dock until other tugs arrived. If told you the name of the tug you probably would'nt believe me. Suffice to say it was, spiritual! Work is progressing well, so far, no major problems. I will relay any honest concerns but for now, we are looking better each day, one day closer to staemboatin' again!
