Did anyone see the Travel Channel's "Secrets of the Kentucky Derby" show on Saturday night? While watching it, they talked about all of the other activities in Louisville during the Kentucky Derby Festival. As they were going through the list of events, I expected them to skip the steamboat race. But they didn't. Actually, they called it the greatest race outside of the Derby, or something similar. But, the funny thing is that they indicated that this particular race series dates back to 1843. While this might be true for steamboat racing in general, it was funny for a steamboat fan like myself. The Belle, while old, didn't exist in 1843. Oh well, at least the steamboat race was mentioned tastefully.
