Total agreement here. Who wants the boat in a moat, anyway? It isn't a phony casino with no character. There's one of those a couple hundred feet away from it right now. Move it back to St. Louis!

Besides a new, more historical paint job, the boat needs a complete makeover. This is one of the biggest reasons that St. Charles is so keen on dumping the historic showboat. In some places, I think the only thing holding it together is the many coats of paint on it. Someone with historical preservation in mind needs to scrape off all of the layers of paint, fix the cracks and holes, and give it a fresh coat of long lasting paint. The interior needs some help too. The auditorium is drafty and cold in the winter, the ceiling leaks, and the decor needs to be updated from the 1950s pseudo steamboat era. But, what charm it has, despite the problems! There's hardly anything like it.
