URL: Eddie Bayard and Vic Tooker

Itís great to hear that Eddie Bayard is still around New Orleans playing his music. He hails from Dayton, Ohio where he worked at National Cash Register and played in his spare time around town, or so I heard. Eventually he and Vic Tooker became pals, and Bayard stood in with Vic's Riverboat Ramblers on the DELTA QUEEN. Eventually Eddie and his own group began doing gigs for Tooker when Colonel Tooker was away from the boat for Air Force Reserve duties. When the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN came out, I believe he had the "house band" on the boat.

Once, some years ago now, Captain Roddy and I were standing on St. Peter, near Bourbon, when Eddie suddenly appear from out of the street crowd, and after greetings, he invited Rod and I onto Bourbon Street where he proudly pointed to a glitzy, electric sign on the front of a nightclub on that famous street. The sign was flashing "BAYARD'S ... BAYARD'S ... BAYARD'S". Eddie had his own jazz joint! Eddie Bayard was on top of his game and came a long way from Dayton, Ohio. Hope he is still doing well, and please give him my regards.
