Alan's posting as to the John Robinson Circus brings to mind that the Robinson Circus and the Robinson family were headquartered here in Cincinnati. Robinson acquired a large farm in Terrace Park, Ohio, about 10 miles east of Cincinnati for the winter quarters. The Little Miami R.R.( later the Pennsylvania R.R.) ran through the property and there was a siding so that the circus trains could be stored or loaded out. John Robinson also used steamboats quite a lot in the early years. The Robinson Circus existed from prior to the Civil War till the depression. Recently a large subdivision was built on the Robinson site, during digging they came upon large bone skeletons. All worked stopped until some local historian informed the that several of the circus elephants were buried there.

Also Annie Oakley took the Oakley name from a Cincinnati community.
