Subject: Re: Annie Oakley-- Capt. Adam H. Bogardus

The RH Historical Society found several interesting references to both Bogardus and Oakley, but no direct reference to as why Mr. B. left the WW Show in 1885. Bogardus was quite well-known in his time and is considered the founder of modern trap shooting in America. But there just wasn't anyone else to match "Little Miss Sure Shot", and that boast holds as true today as it did away back then.

We'll keep digging, but this is about as good as we got:
"After a brief period on their own, Frank Butler and Annie Oakley joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. They had been rejected on their first attempt to join the 'Wild West' because the show already had an impressive collection of champion shooters, Captain Adam H. Bogardus and his sons. However, Bogardus left the show in 1885 and Oakley and Butler were signed to replace him."
