Returning from Cincinnati for a charter cruise on the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE in the fall of 1972, a new deckhand was instructed to get rid of some large bags of garbage. He didn't understand that the mate meant when we landed at Louisville. From the pilothouse we suddenly noticed quite a few big bags bobbing in the wheelwash near 12 Mile Island. Capt. Brasher was horrified and I also seem to recall that it evoked some colorful language from Capt. Hawley! Another memory from that trip is that I helped Doc fry bacon for breakfast while we were at Cincinnati. Every now and then he would hand me a big can of bacon grease and I would go throw it off the fantail!
