Any July/August trip St.L-St.P between 73 and 83, yep I
was there. I'm trying to think what phony excuse they
must have given us for staying there so long. I know I
had told people to meet us at the lock about 1PM, I
think. And of course, in those pre-cell phone days,
there was no way to tell them of the delay. My parents
were down there at Mac for a while, and gave up. I
remember that dog, and there were dogs at 13 and 5, I
think because they were in isolated areas and the dogs
served as protection. A couple of years ago on the JBS
the dog at 13 was on her last legs and the lockman said
the Corps would not allow any dogs after she passed.
Those dogs knew exactly where the galleys to the
various boats were, and got plenty of steaks, etc
