Subject: Re: Steamboat fuels/McMillan Oil...in Davenport area

I remember MacMillan having a dog always there, along with one up at the Rock Island lock, as I recall. I remember the last time I was at macMillan, grandfather went to get his camera to photograph the dog there, and they told him the dog was gone, figured a boat crew might have taken it. I talked with my mom on the phone earlier, she said about their arrival at the dock...they had called the Delta Queen Company in Cincinnati, and the oil dock to which they were told the the DQ was arriving at 6pm, the "earliest" to refuel, this being the same info Capt Blum told my grandfather the day before. Mom said she and dad decided to make a day of it, stopping at their leisure, etc. After they had lunch at a Howard Johnson's in the Quad Cities, Dad decided to call the oil dock, to which they were shocked to find out that the boat was waiting for them as the boat arrived at 8am!! They managed to hail a cab after returning their rental car and making a mad rush to MacMillan's. I can't imagine the boats waiting today for 4-5 hours for passengers to show! Judy, were you aboard then? July 1981 St. Louis-St. Paul??
