Subject: Re: Steamboat fuel/cork life vests/lost bouy

Let's see- I once lost a bouy- really it sounds crazy and it isn't a play on words. When I was teaching sailing, I had to conduct the Friday evening races on the lake- a job that I dreaded because almost all the racers were young men with lots more experience than I had but I was the parks department employee so I WAS the race committee. In other words, I had to set the course, flag the start, and rule on any infractions committed during the race. I am just not competitive enough and was always laughing while most of these guys took the whole thing very seriously. They were good sailors too. Anyway, one Friday night, after I laid out the course, someone came to me and said that I was missing a bouy- the big orange balls that I mark the course with. Well, I cruised all over that lake looking but I couldn't find it. I don't know whether I did not place it in the water correctly and it sunk to the bottom of the lake with its weighted bottom, someone stole it although it was pretty big, or what happened. I know that my boss at the parks department couldn't stop laughing when she read my report. The parks department replaced the bouy but I was always teased about losing it. Think of the headline: Sailor Girl Loses Bouy

Cheers : )
Elaine
