Subject: Re: Steamboat fuels/McMillan Oil...in Davenport area

My 2nd trip on the DQ, my parents 1st...was July 1981. My parents arrival to the DQ was delayed a few days due to my father's work. The DQ was refueling at MacMillan(?) Oil and that is where my parents met the boat, as they rented a car from from Milwaukee to the Quad Cities airport, and the taxi driver from the airport didn't believe that they should be going to an oil dock of all places to meet the DQ! As typical with some of the past trips, they were misinformed as we had to wait several hours for them to arrive as the captain told my grandfather that the DQ would be at the oil dock at 6pm, and in fact we arrived there during the breakfast hour! I can remeber some of the old ladies rumbling about having to spend all day at the oil dock, and when my parents arrived, I was embarrassed, mainly because of the grumblings. My poor mom, afraid of heights, coming accross that deck of the oil dock, she said if it weren't for Henry Mitchell getting her, she still be there!!! In following years, my grandfather managed to get a few hats and a t-shirt from that oil company...I have one of the hats here somewhere....Pete
