Subject: Re: Steamboat fuels - cork life vests

Hi, Steve:
Can't believe the fantastic 'postings' today. When the materials from the estate of the Late Charles Brown was presented to S&D last year, I did the gathering up and inventory. Among the items were: scrapbooks of old steamboat photos, newspaper clippings from the early TOM/CHRIS GREENE/BETSY ANN races and one of the magnetic compasses from the DELTA QUEEN dating to California days. Also was an old cork life vest from the AVALON going way, way back with the Inspectors' seals stamped on the heavy fabric [*1941-1950s]. I took photos of all spread out on the family room rug here before entrusting to Jeff Spear to take back to Marietta. Rumors have it...GASP!...that S&D's Woody & Bee Rutter have a surviving life vest of cork from the TITANIC salvaged from one of her lifeboats. Hope I got it right and will check with Woody soon.
Cheers on a cold day,
R. Dale Flick
