Speaking of cork life vests, the 78' sternwheel passenger boat that my family owned when I was a kid had gobs of them stuffed between the overhead rafters. The boat was built in '29, and most of them had "1930" stamped on them, with a few being from '29. New owners bought the boat and proceeded to throw all of those cork vests into the dumpster in 1982. I was shocked when I discovered that! Barring their antique value, there must have been a fortune in cork alone!!
