Somehow I can see Fred Way saying Mississippi is a good luck word with a twinkle in his eye, because he knew the old superstition about not naming boats beginning with M, the 13th letter of the alphabet. He did receive some grief from the company when he referred to the MQ in the stories of her many misadventures as the "Miss-Q". But Fred Way could get by with it. There have been many other nicknames given to the MQ over the years, but best not posted for public consumption
