The Dam! incident was in '82. I believe as far as the DQ Co. goes, the MQ sinking 12/12/85 was the final blow for passengers in pilothouses, as the Master(long gone from the company) was apparently paying more attention to his visitor than to navigating. And of course, since then Coast Guard regulations have stiffened too. There is an unnamed steamboat in the NOLA harbor which still has guests in the pilothouse though. I have been privileged to steer and turn her many times, but have never made a departure or landing. There are at least 2 people in her pilothouse at all times who could handle her in an emergency, which I wish all boats did(including the towboats).
