Ted: Yes! Bert Fenn adored the BELLE and always said "She's MY boat!" He supplied not only woodwork for the cabin, but the big acorns on the corners of the pilothouse roof. He also saw to it that the pilotwheel facing (which wears down from rubbing by the brake)was regularly replaced. It's hard to believe that this August will mark the 10th anniversary of Bert's passing. All of us who were privileged to know him greatly miss his friendship, knowledge and wonderful sense of humor. He was a master storyteller and I will never forget his tale of seeing a production of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" aboard the SHOWBOAT MAJESTIC. Bert's vivid and animated description of the scene where Little Eva ascends to heaven (she was very awkwardly "yanked" upward on a cable) had everyone in absolute hysterics! Bert's wife, Mary, still lives in their lovely home on the bluff overlooking the Ohio at Tell City. She calls me regularly and enjoys news of the river people.
