Now we're talking serious stuff, when a casino has to close! They'll probably ask E.St.Louis to import enough water to keep afloat, they ask for everything else (and we give it to them). As for Dale's river column question: we have nothing locally, just the occasional article. In fact 2 years ago when Lock 15's gate broke and effectively shut down the Mississippi shipping system, there was nothing in the media. After the 2nd day I phoned the editor of the newspaper which is located on the river directly across from the L&D. I suggested he look out his window at the big thing on the deck barge - it was the lock gate, and he had a national story under his nose and didn't know it. It appeared in the paper the next day. That was the time the AQ got trapped up here and spent 3 days in Davenport. The only regular column I know of was in the Quincy Herald-Whig by Carl Landrum, who died recently. I'm not sure when he quit writing it, but it lasted until 1990 at least. .........
