Hi, Don:
Thanks for the dramatic account of the 'near miss' under the deck in the DQ galley. Told well in excellent style. I'd heard about that incident through the years and all tallies just as you have written. There were times on Steamboats.org when I thought the story would surface but, not knowing all the details, I kept quiet. There certainly was a guiding star that night on the DQ.

Another incident took place here back in Betty Blake's tenure when the boat was docked/laid up at the Public Landing. News accounts had it that a couple were either driving or walking down there and looked up to see smoke drifting out of a door under and adjacent to the DQ's pilothouse. The fire (was it electrical?) was quickly extinguished. I'm hazzy now but 'thought' the company awarded the couple with a trip. Anybody have a better memory on this?
