Hi, Phyllis:
I bet Jane and her clan could fill you in on more 'nitty gritty' Re: the Str. H.K. BEDFORD. Jane posted last week about the ox yoke Gordon C. Greene sold to get money for the BEDFORD and the two leather chairs etc. She was built by Howard Yards, Jeffersonville, IN. in 1885. 149 x 27.7 x 4.1. She was a Cumberland River packet. Hope you saw *Part I of Capt. Mary B. Greene last week. Gordon C. Greene sold her in 1898 and she was destroyed in the winter ice, 1912, just above Marietta, OH. Young couples have their 'starter homes' and the Greenes considered this their 'starter boat.' You gotta order a copy of Capt. Fred Way's Packet Directory, 1848-1983. Lots of E=Mails arriving here last night and this AM Re: the web and S&D of Pioneer Rivermen.
Sunny but bitterly cold day here in 'Rag Town.' I'm trying to be a very, very good boy. Jane and I aren't in 'competition.' We 'talk' daily and bounce many facets of history off each other.
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
