Subject: "Greene" Paint

R. Dale mentioned paint and it made me remember a situation back in the 1970's when one of the Captain's, not sure which one, decided to paint the gunnels red to match the fantail and the bow. They had been green all the time. Oh he was so proud of the job and was expecting all kinds of praise when we hit Cincinnati. Evidently he did not know that it was a Greene Line tradition that the gunnels were to be green. When we arrived in Cincinnati sporting our new colors and the folks from the office discovered the change, well the you know what hit the paddlewheel. The gunnels were back to "Greene" before we left town for the next trip. I think Fred Way spoke on this subject of the popularity of a particular shade of green paint sold in the Cincinnati hardware stores that everyone referred to as "Greene" paint. Can anyone offer any more factual information on this? What about it Jane?
