Yeah, it would be great to have the original calliope back on the BELLE, even if it is tracker action. Since I play a restored 1886 tracker action pipe organ at my church, I wouldn't mind the heavy touch. Since you and I are both known for playing rather fast pieces (Roddy Hammett used to say that I played with "Remington-Rand Touch"!), we probably would have to take a slower tempo on the old calliope! Don't give up on the MAJESTIC calliope memorabilia. There's bound to be something hiding in an archive SOMEWHERE at the University -- perhaps at the Lilly Library in Bloomington or in the IU theatre department. By the way, the old keyboard from the calliope on the PRESIDENT(which came from another Streckfus steamer)is now at the Pott Waterways Library (which is part of the Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis) as part of the Streckfus Steamers /Capt. Bill Carroll collection. The whereabouts of the ADMIRAL's calliope (originally on the CAPITOL) remain rather obscure! But it, too, has to be SOMEWHERE!!! I never did play it, but heard it several times and have a recording of it -- SOMEWHERE!!!
