Thanks for all the great historical info on the Majestic calliope. Too bad the brass keyboard got pitched -- or could it still be lurking in a basement or garage somewhere????
As to Melinda Vaprin, the calliopist on the Majestic. I know I have seen photos in the Courier Journal of her playing it. Those would be available from the CJ Photo Department. I learned recently that they will allow you to look through the photo files at the paper and, for a nominal fee, they will make prints of any photos you wish. You could probably find an address for Melinda through the Alumni office at IU. Bloomington. Northern Kentucky University has a Majestic Showboat collection in their library, but I do not know how far back it goes. Good luck! Maybe someday, Capt. Gabe will DONATE the IDLEWILD/AVALON calliope back where it originated and belongs --to the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE! Another dream!!!!!!!
