I appreciate the posted comments but a person knows he can choose to contact the cruise line or their travel agent. It takes a lot of investment for travel agents to promote travel. There is no way the company could ever afford to market all the small towns and cities that we market around the world. We're now bringing in many clients from England, Germany and other countries.
Also, there are many potential passengers out there who do not have Internet access. That's where local marketing by a travel agent comes in. Get the word out with a telephone number to call and good old snail mail. Personal service can never be beat.
Good travel agents know their clients and make sure that their needs are met. They are there to stand by the client. There is no way the Delta Queen Steamboat Company could afford enough agents to handle all the calls that come in. The company wants us and I'm doing everything I can to bring more travel agents back to support the steamboat cruises.
I only mentioned the $100 per night because that was brought up on the posting. We're always trying to get our clients the best discount even though we know our commission is reduced. That doesn't matter we want the client happy with our service, price and of course, the cruise. We also want to make sure the company has the revenue coming in to keep our boats on the rivers.
A new website and brochure is in the works. Let's all just have patience. DQSC is doing the best they can. After all, they were just purchased by Delaware North last May. A lot of capital has been put out to provide the passenger with the high quality cruise they expect.
The Delta Queen Steamboat Company wants travel agents all over the country to promote the cruises. We're working on just that.
Please remember it takes a large volume of bookings to make a living in the travel business. Website, 800#s, postage and other expenses can be enormous. I certainly don't mind though when I my clients know I'm there for them 7 days a week, day or night and promising them the best price possible.
To all travel agents: WE NEED YOU and the DELTA QUEEN STEAMBOAT COMPANY NEEDS YOU. THE 3 STEAMBOATS ARE CRUISING THIS YEAR AND BELIEVE ME...YOUR CLIENTS WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Let's Go Steamboatin'!
