Phyllis, I was NOT trying to take business away from
you or from any travel agent when I made the website
observations. Nor was I advocating waiting it out and
going for the $100 a day fares rather than booking
ahead. My points were this: 1) it is a bad reflection
on a company in this internet age to have a badly
outdated website. If I knew nothing about the company
before looking at that page, I would not have much
confidence in that company to deliver the goods and
would probably not pursue a trip with them. 2) The $100
(or less) fares are there AT THE LAST MINUTE. They are
available to NOLA people through the Times-Picayune
ads. Why not make them available to anyone, especially
the loyal fans on the board, not just in New Orleans?
Very few people can make last minute trips, so it
wouldn't bankrupt the company as you intimate - if you
think broadcasting it on the website would be damaging,
fine - email a list of repeaters who would request such
info, but let the loyal people in on a break too. As
for your statement in your nonlecture that we are
forgetting the stress, etc. No I am not forgetting
that stress, nor am I forgetting the tears I shed on
the Muscatine levee in 1970 as the DQ left on what was
then her 'last' trip, nor am I forgetting the awe I
felt on the Rock Island levee in 1954(I was too young
to know stress then) as my family went down to the
levee every night of her 8 day layup when she ran
through herself on her very first Upper Miss trip
(Sept. 18-26, 1954). Nor am I forgetting all the
middle of the night vigils to be there when one of the
Queens arrived in town and to deliver the cookies and
run errands. Please don't perceive every non-gushing
comment as a sign the person doesn't love the Queens.
My purpose was to call attention to a situation which I
felt was hurting the company, and thereby hurting the
boats and crew. Sorry you didn't see it that way. End
of my non-lecture! I'd put a smily face on here, but of
course I don't know how
