Fiber lines are measured by circumference, wire rope by diameter at the widest width preferable figured by an average of three measurements at different locations along the wire. Max breaking point of manila is assumed to be B =(Circumference squared)/2.5 Where B is in long tons or 2240lbs. So 9" would be ~72,576 lbs. Some of the high tech 8" Kevlar towing hawsers are rated +400,000 lbs. 9" Spectra lines as high as 780,000 lbs.
