It is easy for the Badger to "re-coal" as it only has two destinations it must attend to, and in Manitowoc, WI, one sees the large coal pile there for her. Being that I don't have a clue about the maritime industry, I agree Dale, I think coal (or wood) refueling capabilities today would be a logistical and expensive nightmare! I don't know about special exemptions for coal use, or limits-protests, etc., the Badger does continue US 10 from Manitowoc across the lake to Ludington, but to my knowledge, they are a private company with no federal or state subsidies on anything. You are correct on the Skinner Uniflow engines, it still has them!
