Wow- what a neat story but that shows I have a sick sense of humor. For New Years eve, my daughter and friends were at my place watching The Twilight Zone Marathon on Cable- the episode that I enjoyed the most (also sick idea) was the Voyage of the Lady Anne. To make a long story short- young couple is determined to go on a cruise because their marriage has been on the skids because he works so much. Everyone tries to discourage them from going (travel agent, other passengers, purser, etc etc). Finally they are let off the boat in the middle of the ocean in a lifeboat because the captain and passengers are cruising off into the twilight zone since that method of transportation with its ornate cabins and leisurely way of life are obsolete.

Jane- I really did laugh- I can picture the hat contest and the "wake". On the positive note, I still think that the passengers who have died aboard are actually happy- as if they were granted a last wish. My first time aboard the American Queen, I started to feel sorry for a lonesome gentleman who had lost his wife and suffered a stroke-- then it hit me---he was actually one of the happiest people on the boat. He was cruising down his private memory lane and I swear that his beloved wife was right there with him even if I could not see her.

Cheers
Elaine
