Sister Jane gave me a heads up on Dale's message -- I remember the day the telegram was received. Dad showed it to me and, I think,my brother Tom while we were locked in combat on the living room floor just before dinner. We stopped long enough to give the news some thought but we were way too young to grasp the significance. I was 11 -- TOm was 8!

Any way the irony of this message is that my son Chris who is a pilot of a different sort -- United Airlines and an F16 fighter pilot for the Colorado Guard and a former F18 Navy fighter Pilot -- sent me this very same maeesge in an EMail a few years ago. It is one of Chris's favorites -- he said it reminded him of me -- which was flattering to say the least. Fact is I never fit in the catagory of my Dad's challenge nor of Chris's who routinely took his life in his hands, taking off and landing on the USS Forestal, and is now rampinmg up for Iraq if things get crazier. My POP and My SON(S) are my true heros. They have indeed dared mightily. Cheers to all and best of the season.GCG
