I first cruised the Delta Queen, as a young 12 year old, in 1979 and I still regard myself as a "newbie"!!! Someone had said earlier on here about favorite routes, etc...although all my cruises have been on the Delta Queen....my favorite regions vary. I like the NOLA to Baton Rouge corridor of the Mississippi River, as I enjoy looking at all the ocean freighter traffic that is on the river. I also like the Upper Mississippi River and the Illinois River trips...mostly because they are relatively "close to home". One trip that I thought was a great sucess to me as a passenger was a July 1999 trip on the Delta Queen that was a 5 night round trip out of St. Paul. The boat went as far south as Prairie duChien, and it included Winona, LaCrosse and Red Wing as it's shore stops. That trip was supposed to be a cruise up the St. Croix River to Stillwater, but the State of Wisconsin DNR (as what I was told) objected to the Delta Queen coming up the St. Croix for fear of the spread of zebra mussels. As I do know, that 1999 round trip was sold out months ahead of the cruising date, as relatives of mine wanted to try and cruise then as well, and the trip was sold out...already in April of that year from what I remember. Well, that is my 2 cents worth! I do want to wish everyone on here a very Happy Holiday season!!! Regards from the "lakes"...Pete
